| Somalia is an East African country, which has been in the news for its never ending civil wars and warlordism. The civil strife that began in 1990 is being continued till date and Somalia is hardly a viable tourist destination. People travel to Somali mainly for business purposes and purposes related to research or international aid. The place is not at all safe for individual tourist and is one of the most unsuitable places on Earth, for sightseeing. Yet, if you are an adventurer by spirit and would like to take the risk of visiting the country, you can discover a place laden with natural beauty and the old world charm one usually associates with the gulf region. Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya are the three countries surrounding Somalia.

The country is divided into three major regions. The region falling under the governance of the nominal government is called Gedo. The two other regions lying to the southern part of the country are Somaliland and Puntland. These two regions have declared their independence, but have not yet been accepted as separate countries. Air flights to Somalia though not very rare are not very frequent either. Somalia needs to remain connected to the rest of the world because of its needs to receive international aid.
Western countries like the UK, France and the USA, usually do not have services of air flights to Somalia. Though some cities in the USA are connected to Somalia, it is more for the need of providing international aid than tourism. Western countries have stopped plying flights to Somalia because of several incidents of kidnapping of tourists.
